Greece History Blog

The Persian War was caused between the Greeks and the Persians. The Greeks had moved along the coast of the Mediterranean looking for land to set up a city-state for more work, but the Persians wanted to tax the city. The Persian king Darius I invaded first and tried to conquer all of Greece. It was going good until they met at Marathon and the Athenians claimed a victory. The next invasion was under the ruler Xerxes who attacked at Thermopylae. The Greeks fought until the last man was killed, but the Persians won and continued on to Athens. The Athenians had already evacuated the city, but Athens burned to the ground. Finally, the Persians were defeated in a bloody naval ship battle and the two never fought again.
